What is a really good DVD/video converter?

Post by question » Sat Nov 15, 2008 4:48 am

I downloaded "Total Video Converter" and I can't get it to convert the video files from my DVD into a common format such as WMV, MPEG, or AVI, or into sound such as MP3 or WMA, which it says it can do.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Thte files are in a form called ".IFO" which I could only get to play on InterVideo WinDVD, and nothing else.

I'm trying to convert it so I can upload (part) of it on to YouTube, but nothing is working. So, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure if you can't get the work off the DVD, then Audacity is pretty helpless. Audacity will not recognize transport stream MPEG2 in any event, so even if you do get the DVD ripped, you still have to demux the files and then convert them to WAV or MP3.

IFO isn't a video file. That's one of the system information files.

Windows Media files are hardly standard and simple. They are highly compressed and protected H.264 files that relatively few programs can manage. Windows Media knows what they are...

SUPER by erightsoft can convert VOB files (found on DVD's) to other video formats. However, some DVD's have various kinds of copy protection that make it a lot more difficult. The Doom9 forum is one of the best places to look for info about DVD's.

I removed this post because it's a two-page for-profit video converter commercial.
