Is there a way to select two tracks and have a FADE OUT on the first while having a FADE IN on the second?
This way the two will overlap.

Re: Fade Out -> Fade In
What you want is called crossfade. There is a crossfade effect in Audacity but it is niot a true crossfade. One of the forum elves is currently working on a new crossfade plugin - see this (longish) thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 42&t=61498

Re: Fade Out -> Fade In
But until they get it done, you can import both tracks so they appear one above the other and use the Time Shift Tool (sideways black arrows) to push one later than the other. Then apply Effect > Fade out to one and Effect > Fade in to the other. Like this.

That's really the Envelope Tool, but the effect on the sound is the same.

Thanks, I have been doing that but I wanted to check if this could be done a bit easier...kozikowski wrote: That's really the Envelope Tool, but the effect on the sound is the same.

Re: Fade Out -> Fade In
Though it's not quite finished yet, there is a fully working cross-fade plug-in in the link that waxcylinder gave.dennus wrote:I wanted to check if this could be done a bit easier...
Here is a direct link to the plug-in: http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=4199
There is also a newer cut-down version available here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=4251
They have different names so they can both be installed at the same time.
To install the plug-ins, download them and put them in the Audacity plug-ins folder (inside the Audacity installation folder), then restart Audacity.
To remove the plug-ins, just delete them.
I would be very interested to hear your comments on these plug-in if you have time to try them as user feedback will help to guide the final form of this plug-in.
