Paste and merge ?

Post by ebrain » Mon Aug 04, 2008 12:30 pm

Hi there.

I'm trying Audacity instead of Sound Studio (MacOS X Bundle) mainly because it supports multi-track editing.
Anyway, I'm trying to do a thing I used to with Sound Studio that I can't figure out.

In Sound Studio :
I open two audio files, I copy one of the files opened, and then on the other file I put my cursor in some place, and I paste there.
Then Sound Studio pastes where I've put my cursor, and simply merge the existent signal with the one I'm pasting from.

In Audacity :
I've to import the two files, each file with its track, and then go to the Mix function.

But all of this seems complicated to me since I've got many many files to merge, and that would involve many many tracks in Audacity too. Any way to do this in Audacity like I used to in Sound Studio please ? :(

Best regards.

If the sounds overlap, then you need to have them on separate tracks so that they can be mixed (note that mixing is done automatically on Export). This method is extremely versatile as it means that you can move, change the pan, or the volume level of any clip at any time.

If the clips do not overlap, you can paste multiple clips in the same track.

In either case, use the Time Shift tool to move clips along the timeline.

I've tried many times to merge/add a tiny "Intro" audio snippet at the beginning of a language lesson audio clip. I've set to my satisfaction the sound for each seperate clip & exported/saved them. :D When pasting the "Intro" piece in front of the audio lesson, the audio lesson becomes too low to hear again. When raising the sound level for that, the "Intro" is blaring! How hard can this be?!? I just CANNOT figure out how to do this! Please help me. Thanks! Juli ;)
