Will Audacity work with Vista? I was putting up a website for my church when my older windows XP computer crashed; it actually totally died. I used audacity on the windows XP computer and I loved the program. However, because the computer completely died and would not restart, I went to Best Buy and bought another computer. The new computer has Vista instead of Windows XP. Is Audacity compatible with Vista? I did not see anything on the download page to indicate that it would be compatible?
Thank You,
Helen

Re: Audacity and Vista???
Vista on the PC and Leopard on the Mac are the New Kids on the Block. There are oddities here and there, but they've both been out long enough to generate a list of work-arounds.
I'm generally the Mac person, but the Windows people should be along shortly.
One thing people notice immediately is that Vista makes it much more difficult to record internet audio. It's that business of Playing and Recording at the same time that causes so many Windows problems. Fully two thirds of the forum Windows questions have nothing to do with Audacity.
So to bring this around, yes, try downloading and installing 1.3.x (the appropriate one for you) and see how it goes.
Oh, and I personally would have posted this in the Widows forum. We come down here after we're finished with the targeted forums.

Re: Audacity and Vista???
Yes as Koz says, Vita/Audacity is known to be a tricky mix - try this page from the Audacity Wiki for starters: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS
But yes, the basic answer to your question is - yes people can get Audacity to work on Vista, but the sound services van be trickier to manage under Vista than "good old" XP.
I think Koz' advice about using 1.3 is sound (don't worry about it being Beta - it is actually fairly stable now - and approaching a production release later this year). You can get it from: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
