Wow! That worked! I THOUGHT I had tried every available combination of Interface, Recording and Playback options, but I had NOT tried Stereo - why would it refuse to record Mono? I'll experiment with the recording more tomorrow - it's late and I've been singing Valentines all day. And I have to remember what project I was trying to use 1.3.x (beta) for anyway... Thanks for your help.
