Audacity Forum

We have recently done some work (hopefully) improving the Front Page of the Audacity Manual for Version 1.3/2.0 - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Main_Page.

The main change has been to provide better visibility for the Tutorials section of the manual. Formerly this was accessed via either the navigation bar on the left hand side, or from the Yellow box which started "New users may want to look at ...".

1)The Tutorials have now been moved into the top section of the main table of contents (TOC) on the front page - and this top section has been expanded, restructured and renamed to "Using Audacity".

2) The previous yellow box has been removed.

3) We have also tidied the bottom section of the TOC, now titled "Index, Glossary and more"

4) The two separate links two two separate and different pages on Audacity project hace been consolidated into a single link and a single page.

Many thanks to Gale Andrews for his invaluable help in developing this proposal.

Note that the Front page is still a work-in-progress and we can use this thread to discuss future improvements.

Gale has already proposed some futher changes (on my user pages in the manual- see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/User ... Version-10 )

1) I suggest moving the "Copyright" text from underneath the TOC into a "Copyright" page and adding a link to it in this panel - this will have the added benefit of beefing-up the "Index, Glossary and More".

2) Sometime I want to have a go at spacing out the "wall of links" in the Preferences - as people say, it doesn't look great.

3) Where we have columns of links in a panel (e.g. "Preferences") shouldn't they read down then across, not across then down?

4) I still think we could toy with an image for the Tutorials (or some way to make them more obvious).
