Audacity does not exit when clicking the red X at the top right corner. I have to use File > Exit. I figure it's a simple bug.
I have Audacity v1.3.5 running on WinXP Pro SP2.

Re: Fails to exit on X
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.08, Audacity 1.3.4-beta.
Any GUI program I know closes the window when the "x" button of the last open window is clicked.
Here the preferences item is called "Any Close/Exit command completely quits Audacity". That's not what I want. I want Audacity to make a difference between closing a file and exiting the program. I would never expect Audacity to exit when I only close a file.

Re: Fails to exit on X
In most situations it is a big advantage to close Audacity in between sessions. That is, when you want to close a file and open another one, it is usually best to close audacity. The reason for this is that Audacity creates a huge amount of temporary data files (for "undo") that can easily add up to many tens of Gigs. Closing Audacity deletes the unused temporary files, thus freeing up a lot of drive space.kuehnik wrote:I would never expect Audacity to exit when I only close a file.
Also, Audacity imposes no restrictions on what plug-ins you use, and it is possible to configure Audacity to store temporary data in RAM, so in some situations it would be easy to run out of RAM by sequentially opening projects.
For people that do not want the default option of closing Audacity when they close a project, the option is provided in preferences (though this is not to be recommended for most users).

I do not recommend you to do this if you have small RAM otherwise computer may stop responding.Stevethefiddle Said
