recording truncating

I recorded from a cassette player to my computer and everything looked ok until i checked the saved files and a 45 minute recording was chunked into 12 second segments. Do i have to change a setting?

Audacity will not save a sound file. Do not move or damage any of those project fragments.
Open the show in Audacity and Export WAV or MP3 to get a real sound file of the whole show.
