timing lag & error

Post by neegee » Mon Dec 27, 2010 12:55 pm

I've been using Audacity programs since several years and i love the user-friendly easy high-quality recording software, however there is one bug which keeps on appearing on each version.

its the Synchronization of multitracks. If i record onto a click track ... i would always have to move my recording approx. 0.1sec to the left to have synchronized with the track. HOWEVER, during long tracks i realise that at the end of the track i'd be again out of synch. I found out that Audicity doesnt keep a regular tempo :(

I actually put a clicktrack of 140bpm of 5 mins long ... u generated another clicktrack of 280bpm. I zoomed in and moved the 2nd clicktrack precisely underneath the first which is half its tempo so that every 2nd beat was EXACTLY under its previous one. ... and guess what... i moved along 3 mins and it was totally out of synch!!! How can that be??? What can i do to achieve a 100% synchronized multitrack recording? I always thought its my soundcard, and processor speed, But that Audacity's generated clicktracks are out of synch, proves that its a software issue. Its such a pitty because i really love using this software.

would anyone know how to tackle this problem? am i the only one who experiencing this issue?
thanks

Please post in the correct forum for your operating system and version of Audacity, so that we know those for sure.

I created 140 bpm and 280 bpm click tracks underneath each other in 1.3.12 and they synchronise perfectly throughout.

To fix the problem that your sound device is recording at a different rate than it plays at, see:
