Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
For many months my recordings from my 2 microphones, one from my voice and the other from sound files out of my computer speakers were perfect and fine. Before my 2 mics were plugged into a USB line 6, but now that I mistakenly did a windows update, RealTek HD audio took over my microphones and since then the audacity recordings off the computer speaker only, is very distorted for some reason. I thought sound is sound, whether it be from my voice or the speaker?

Re: Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
Im not sure, but it had something to do with using more than one mic at the same time, then realtek HD audio took over for some reason, and the computer speaker recordings became distorted.
Re: Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
Plug your Line 6 device into the computer and allow a few moments for Windows to recognise it before you start Audacity.
Then start Audacity and go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"
Set the Recording device to the USB option.
Do you understand these instructions?
Does this fix the problem?
If not, please describe precisely and with lots of detail what you are having trouble with.

Re: Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
I tryed what you said, and unfortunately the RealTek HD audio still is the source of the mic, no longer the USB line. I thought sound is sound to a mic? Why would sound from the computer speaker be so distorted while the sound from my mouth be fine?

Is it a laptop computer?
Do you have Skype installed ?(or any other "Voice over IP" software)

cant you go into realtek and set what you want ?
click the orange speaker icon on the bottom .
note that you need to scroll to find all options
you may need to click some easter eggs to find all of them
download the latest realtek driver too

Re: Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
Are you changing any of this in the Windows Control Panels? Audacity is a complete slave to whatever Windows is doing and Windows will not always follow when you change something in Audacity.

Re: Recordings from computer speaker are now very distorted
I will have my wife who is a computer engineer to take a look at it. She told me that its wise to upgrade the RealTek drivers from a CD. The problems of Windows is another talk show. Big glitches with programs are not uncommon today. I think that this is the result of greedy corporate America outsourcing their I.T. and programmers.
