<<<Hi just finished recording a track and exported it as wav file tried to play back in windows media player but file size only 44kb.>>>
You left out, "And it didn't play."
Did it?
Are you sure you exported the "right" WAV? Did the export panel look something like this...
How many minutes is the show?

No it did not play my apologies this question should have been in Audacity 1.2
Re: wav file size
What audacity version are you using? In which operating system? Describe in detail the steps you made to export the wav file and what steps did you change when exporting as mp3.
Re: wav file size
Hi sorry for the delay in replying I am using Audacity 1.2.6. on windows xp home edition
When recording finished Saved to test folder then clicked Export as wav to my Music folder.
When opened Music folder File only showed 44kb.
Went back and Eported file as mp3 to Music folder then converted file to WAV using Acoustic Converter.
Still dont know if program working properly or if i did something wrong.

Re: wav file size
When you save to mp3 you damage the sound, by the mp3 compression algorithm. When you convert it back to wav you'll still have the damage done by the mp3 compression and the resulting wav won't have the same quality as exporting directly to wav.
Exporting to WAV should have worked, though you might consider upgrading to audacity 1.3.12. Even though this version is tagged as beta in many cases it's actually more stable than the ancient 1.2.x versions.
With audacity 1.3.x the export options are set on the export dialog window rather than on preferences.
You can get the latest version for windows from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows

Re: wav file size
Having paid for audacity 1.2.6 licensed for three machines is the download to 1.3 a free upgrade for three machines as well even if it is tagged beta or would audacity send me a cd of the beta version.
Re: wav file size
Audacity is (and as far as I know it has always been) free software (both as in free speech and as in free beer), that means it is available for download for free.pauldjdom wrote:Having paid for audacity 1.2.6 licensed for three machines is the download to 1.3 a free upgrade for three machines as well even if it is tagged beta or would audacity send me a cd of the beta version.
You can get it from the official website here: http://audacityteam.org/
All versions are free.
Selling Audacity is not technically illegal according to GPL license, but it is morally questionable. May I ask where did you get Audacity from and who asked you for license fees?
Re: wav file size
Hi obtained the software plus the connection cables from http://www.trcomputers.com based in knutsford cheshire cost £9.99 inc vat pay by paypal from ebay (2m vinyl, tape & MD to PC kit) email [email protected].
I dont know if the charge is for the whole package or just the cables the cd is not branded by Audacity logos it is just a cd-r and very easy to follow instructions.
So they may not be doing anything illegal.
Many thanks for your instructions and information

Re: wav file size
Couldn't resist - and I see that that URL leads to a page with links to specific "packages" this company sells. On the vinyl-to-pc site you can see a picture of the "kit" they sell for £11.95 plus 3.50 P&P - a 5 m cable with 3.5mm stereo plugs on each end, a 3.5mm jack to dual RCA adapter, and a 3.5mm to 8mm headphone plug adapter.
And some very bad advice: "We recommend that you should attach our leads to the 3.5mm Line-In socket on a Desktop/Tower PC - see photo.
If you have a laptop PC you'll be using the Mic-In socket instead. Either will give great results. "
We all know from experience here that plugging the headphone output of your stereo into the mic input of your laptop will not give great results!
So they're packaging Audacity with this "kit". On the site they say "All software is Open-Source - it is not demo, shareware or time-limited in any way. Nothing extra to pay, ever." So I don't know where you got this "licence" idea. Maybe they got called out on that and changed their tune.
