converts to mp3, then no sound...

Post by nipperbro69 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 4:39 am

i am recording music into audacity off of vinyl records.
i can record the music into audacity and play it back and hear it fine, but once i convert to mp3 and then open itunes to play the music, there is no sound.
i can tell the song is playing because the ticker up at the top shows that it is, yet i hear no sound.
has anyone experienced this and/or offer some advice?
thanks!

Personally I wouldn't (and don't) use MP3s from Audacity on iTunes/iPod.

Rather: export as WAV, import the WAV into iTunes, use iTunes to convert the WAV to AAC (at your selected bitrate), then delete the WAV version from iTunes.

Size for size and bitrate for bitrate AAC is generally reckoned to provider better audio quality than MP3.

WC (or anyone) - I just had this problem as well, only it must stay in MP3 format so I can upload it onto our website ... how do I make this work? Thank you!

You can convert from WAV or AIFF to MP3 in iTunes as well as convert to AAC.

If either of you are on Windows and recording from USB turntables, read this. It's more likely to be the problem than something being wrong with the Audacity MP3.
