Which is why there is a forum board specifically for people using Audacity 1.3.x on Windows http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=5ppdjoy wrote:But I use Windows XP
The problem with posting on a general board like this is that no-one knows what sort of machine you are working on, and few people are going to search through a 4 page topic to see if you mentioned it earlier in the thread.
@crooksy
If you are on Vista or Windows 7 there is a fair chance that Stereo Mix has been disabled (or not included) by the manufacturer.
The workaround is to either use a "looback" connector as described by Koz a couple of posts earlier, or use a virtual sound card, or upgrade your sound card to one that supports stereo mix. You will find more information here, but if you still have a problem please start a new topic. (it gets really confusing when there's multiple questions in the same topic)

Re: How To Record Streaming Audio In 1.3?
I have Vista and RealTek. Recently, I installed the July RealTek driver update and lost Stereo Mix, the label for "Cyberlink Media Library Service" on the Volume Mixer panel and the RealTek GUI with dynamic tabs for each device. HP Media Center complained about something on the next boot - maybe that's the "Cyberlink..." thing. As far as I could tell, there was no way anymore to record streaming audio. I did a System Restore to get the old driver back and everything works again.

Again, for those who are still looking for solutions in XP, use Freecoder 4 which can do your recording free as in line-in.
