it is the same system with XP as Vista

"I eventually found out how to recording streaming audio etc direct from the soundcard using a Vista System.

Control panel > Sound > Recording > Right click on white part of window and click "show disabled devices". Select "stereo mix" click OK and start recording on Audacity.

On most new Vista machines, the built-in microphone is the only device enabled."

Thanks everyone.
But I think my laptop will not allow me to record streaming audio by Audacity or any other software because IBM Thinkpad T61 doesn't have the "stereo mix" option. The only way to record is by microphone which I'm not going to do since it catches surrounding's noise. I guess I'd have to get a new system where "stereo mix" is available.

Does it have a line-in? If so you can always connect the headphones output to the line-in... it's much better than using the mic...

Have you tried other software options for recording? IIRC you said you were trying to record streaming audio from a webpage... Have you tried the downloadhelper plugin on firefox?
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

By line-in, do you mean it's another option along with Wave, SW Synth, CD Player etc.? I have this...

I've tried to download using RealPlayer download option, Orbit downloader & other plugins. But it seems that the webpage from which I'm trying to record/download audio (Hummaa) does not allow any of these.

No, I mean a physical audio connector on the side of your laptop. Some laptops have an audio input connector, similar to the headphones output and probably next to it.
If it does, do check if it's for mic only or if it's line-in/mic-in. If it's for mic only it's not such a good a idea to connect the headphone output to it. If it accepts line level inputs too, then should be safe to connect the headphone output to it.
If you're not sure check your laptop's manual, on specifications, under input/output or audio connections... if it does have one should be listed next to the headphones output specs.

If you're not sure, tell us what's your laptop brand and model and we can try to look it up for you.

I briefly tried downloadhelper on that site but it didn't seem to capture the stream either... but I'll give it another try later if I have some free time.

Thanks a lot.

But still I'm unclear how to find out if mine has line-in. My laptop is IBM Thinkpad T61 Windows XP Professional SP3.

If you have time, please check if downloadhelper works on Hummaa.
Thanks again.

On the front side you should have something like this:

Blue jack connector is for headphones and pink one is for mic. Apparently it looks like it's for mic only, but you can still try to connect the headphone output to it with a cable like this:

If the sound you get from it sounds too loud and distorted it's because it's a mic only input.

DownloadHelper didn't work on hummaa sorry... Also tried Flashgot firefox plugin but no luck either...
Apparently someone was able to successful record from hummaa with Replay Media Catcher but that's not free software (they have a 30 day trial shareware version if you want to give it a try). I don't use Windows so I can't give you any help with testing windows software sorry.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot man for your continued help.

But unfortunately, I don't have those kinds of cables with me.

I also tried with Replay Media Catcher, but no luck!

I'll keep looking & hopefully I might come across with something.

Thanks again.

Thanks.

But I use Windows XP. It seems like Macvide is for Mac.

However, I found the solution for my audio recording with Freecorder 4. It's like a toolbar in Firefox & IE that allows sound recording of whatever is playing in the computer.
