Could you please advise if there is a feature for obtaining a
printable version of any Audacity Manual (or any Quick Help)?
Thanks ... Murph

Re: Printable Audacity Manual
Writing the manual, FAQ, or instructions is like pushing hot pins in your flesh compared to the joy of programming and product development. So it frequently doesn't get done.
We're up for volunteers to collect all the fragments in the Audacity pantheon and publish the book in PDF. Hands? Anyone?

unless it is hypereasy
how hard would it be to make that web thing printable
like so many web sites do --
have a printable button so we can print the entire thing
a search capability in the manual would almost be as good
but both print and search would be better
just do it once
should work for the future too

Individual pages may be printed directly from your web browser - most browsers have a print option in the File menu.whomper wrote:how hard would it be to make that web thing printable
There have been printable (pdf format) versions of previous Audacity manuals and I'd guess that there will eventually be a pdf version of the current manual when it reaches a state of adequate completeness.
The full manual runs to hundreds of pages, and I doubt that many people will want to print out the whole thing. In most cases, when you have looked something up once you won't need to look it up again.
The online version has a search box on the left, under the Audacity logo.whomper wrote:a search capability in the manual would almost be as good
The manual is still being actively worked on, so if a pdf version was created now it would be out of date tomorrow.whomper wrote:just do it once
An enormous amount of work has gone into creating a wealth of documentation for Audacity. In addition to the manual there is an extensive resource of information on the Audacity wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org

Make it a txt or doc file without all the html stuff.
We could use word to work with it andor print it.
True, dont want to print the entire thing, but willing to do so.
Would like to print selected sections as it is much easier to work with than on screen -- especially when also using audacity at the same time.

<<<Please forget pdf!!!>>>
Because.....?
<<<Make it a txt or doc file without all the html stuff.>>>
Text files tend to lose formatting and graphics.
Not everybody has Microsoft Office and the Linux people are forced to install OpenOffice to view and manage docs. Everybody can view, search, and print pdfs.

Re: Printable Audacity Manual
I'd be strongly against .doc format. It's a series of proprietary formats (copyright Microsoft) that regularly change in ways that break compatibility with non-Microsoft software as a "brand lock in" mechanism. While .pdf is dominated by Adobe (on Windows and Mac) it is an open format that anyone can use without paying a Microsoft tax. A properly formatted pdf document will preserve the correct appearance, layout, and even the right fonts, irrespective of what platform and software the user chooses to use. That is not true of Microsoft Word documents.
Text documents do not support pictures (unless you want all the illustrations converted to ascii art).
Most other web browsers have something similar.
