Cut/Ctrl-X cuts too much
After concatenating one imported WAV to another imported WAV, I went to cut out the dead space between. But regardless of how I select the space -- even when I leave some blank space there, it cuts about .5 seconds into the next wave form, removing the leading part of the next song.

Do have a label track and is "Link Audio and Label Tracks" checked in the "Tracks" menu? If so, you have encountered a known bug. Either get rid of the label track or uncheck "Link Audio and Label Tracks".

No, this is without any label track. It is just the two imported WAV, nothing else.

OK, so it's not that.
Exactly which version of Audacity are you using?

Testing v1.3.9
Re: Cut/Ctrl-X cuts too much
Further testing indicates that it appears to cut out twice as much as what is selected. For example, selecting from 2:31.0 to 2:32.0 (1 sec) cuts out two seconds -- from 2:31.0 to 2:33.0. Likewise, selecting from 2:29.0 to 2:31.0 (2 sec), cuts out from 2:29.0 to 2:33.0.

Re: Cut/Ctrl-X cuts too much
Have you got Snap To turned on - see the bottom right hand corner of the Audacity window (if it's on it will be ticked).
I that is the case, then uncheck it.

No, Snap To is not enabled.
Re: Cut/Ctrl-X cuts too much
I've also found that this does not happen when cutting from the beginning of a waveform or from some portion nearer the beginning. It only seems to happen when you are somewhere beyond 4-5 minutes into the waveform.

Re: Cut/Ctrl-X cuts too much
This is exactly the behaviour when linking is on and you have a label track.RodBarnes wrote:Further testing indicates that it appears to cut out twice as much as what is selected. This conflicts with your previous report of cutting at 2:31.RodBarnes wrote:I've also found that this does not happen when cutting from the beginning of a waveform or from some portion nearer the beginning. It only seems to happen when you are somewhere beyond 4-5 minutes into the waveform.
I can't reproduce this using 1.3.9.
Shrink you project window to a reasonable size then click on View > Fit in Window then View > Fit Vertically. Select an area to cut that will cause the problem but don't make the cut. Go to Help > Screenshot Tools and click "Capture Window Only". This will take a picture of your project window. Attach that picture to your next post using the "Upload Attachment" tab below the message composition window. This may help us track down your problem.
