editing very short section

I occasionally need to edit out a very short section of a file less than two (2) minutes is ther a way to either expand the width of the display ?

The zoom in amd zoom out tools are probably what you need - the magnifying glass icons

If you have a wheel mouse, then you can use Ctrl+wheel to zoom in/out.
