Audacity crashed while opening 2nd MP3

Post by lasare » Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:16 pm

Hi, I have been working on a project all evening and just on completion decided to open another mp3 to cut and paste a segment from it, and the whole thing has frozen. I cannot close either page and unfortunately haven't manually saved my project. It seems the only way out of the deadlock is to shutdown the computer (using linux mandriva).
I am hoping that if I do this the work I've already done on the first page will have been automatically saved, is this correct?
Thanks, Lasare

About crash recovery: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... shRecovery

As for the cause of the crash - check that MP3, is it really an mp3 or some other format with an mp3 extension?

Thanks for your reply, but on opening Audaicty I get the message that it cannot find the files, then this one.
'Could not load file: "/home/lasare/.audacity-data/AutoSave/Inspirations21 - 2008-08-19 21-59-28 N-7.autosave"'

I then looked in the tmp files and there is nothing in it. My linux guy just came recently and created a new tmp location for audacity as previously it had inexplicably been saving its files in the 'sytem' files section of the computer, which caused the whole computer to seize up as all spaced was filled.
THis is the first project on aud that I've attempted since he created new tmp file. (named, /home/lasare/tmp/audacity1.2-lasare/.audacity_temp/)
Any ideas where they might have gone, or why they didn't save to there?
Ive browsed the page of info you linked for me and found no way of working till I know where the b.....s have gone!
Thanks L

In Audacity 1.3.x
Before you save a project, the data files are stored in the location indicated in Audacity Preferences
(Edit > Preferences > Directories)
In Audacity 1.2.x, the directory is still shown in Preferences, but I don't remember exactly where)

After you have saved a project, the temporary directory is cleared and not used. The data files are now written directly to the project data folder (wherever you saved it).

The default location of the temporary directory is usually a hidden folder in the Home directory, however I think that this could vary depending on how the build was done.
