I have a little confusion of what is metadata. Here is what I know
1. CD-text is the extra info associated with audio-CD that is recorded in a special channel and you can see (autor, title, album) in some players or in Audacious linux player. To get it I enter the information for example in k3b.
Is there any connection between the metadata here in Audacity and the CD-text?
2. After I fill all the info in the metada editor if I save as wav and then open it only then <Author Name<, <Track Tile> and <Year> are returned, the rest is gone. If I save it as ogg or flac all is kept.
3. Back to CD-text. If I add a wav file no information is display. If I add an ogg file the basic information is entered.
So it seems that wav does not save all this information and whatever information is save is not transfer to the CD-text.
It seems that the other file formats save the information in the metadata and can transfer it to CD-text
Is that all correct?
Where is the metadata info stored?
Any other information about the metadata?
TIA

Re: Metadata What is it?
I too am interested in making this feature functional with .WAV files. I am transferring cassette and open real tapes to my computer using Audacity then exporting them to CD. I would like to have the Artist, Title and other information carried forward.
In working with Windows Media Player, it seems to me that it has the ability to pick up this information from .WAV files if I play a CD.
An information on this would be helpful.
Thanks.

Re: Metadata What is it?
Standard WAV files do not support Metadata.
Some CD's have something called "CD text" which allows track information to be included on the CD, though this is not strictly standard. Also, some software CD players are able to obtain CD track information automatically over the internet for many commercial CD's (providing that you have a working internet connection).
FLAC, Ogg and MP3 all support meta data, though there are some variations in exactly which tags they support.

A little googling gives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metadata - and many many more articles on metadata, but the Wikipedia aricle seems a good place to start ....terryxela wrote:Hey guys where can I read information about the metadata editor and metadata?
