The system is FC7 with all the updates installed. Sound works well in other environments. Audacity record works, however attempts to play back result in error message: Error while opening sound device.
Sound is configured for alsa. I am not sure how to check the audacity config.
Thanks - Dan

Re: error on playback.
I'm having a similar problem.
When I launch Audacity in Ubuntu Feisty I get this message when I try to play back any file whether wav, mp3 or ogg:
Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate.
I unchecked system sounds and ESD from the preferences menu, and tried to see if it would playback after this but the glitch still appears.
Being an extreme Noob, I'm not sure how to get around this issue creatively.
What do you suggest?

Found a solution in this thread: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... 9947#p9947
Here's a repost of what I did to resolve it:
I resolved the error by searching for: Alsa
Then I marked the following for installation and selected 'Apply': Alsa-oss, Alsa-gtk, Alsa-edk
Then I typed into terminal: Aoss Audacity (as suggested in this thread).
Worked like a charm.
I'll be starting Audacity from terminal from now on just to avoid the drama, in case I haven't fully resolved this.

Oops.
Forgot to mention I searched for Alsa in the Administration- Synaptic Package Manager.
