Window Focus Problem

Post by tootallforpony » Mon Nov 23, 2009 7:15 am

My problem may not be audacity-specific, but it only seems to happen with Audacity, and I've tried every more general solution I could think of or find online, so I'm hoping that posting it here will help. I've been digitizing my cassette tapes (yeah, old-school!), and am currently in the process of splitting the recordings of entire tapes into individual tracks. To do this I split the track at each song, label each section, and then use the "Export Multiple" feature. For a typical cassette, this process takes several minutes. However, each new track that gets exported pops up a new window, and every time this happens *all* of the Audacity windows are brought to the front, interrupting whatever else I was trying to do while the export was taking place.

I know what you're thinking - disable 'raise windows on focus' and/or 'new windows get focus' in the display manager. I've done that. I've even configured the system so that clicking in the window doesn't raise it - I have to click on the title bar or the bottom panel bar to raise each window. Most new apps that I open come up in the background, and don't pop to the front until I explicitly tell them to. Nonetheless, Audacity still manages to steal focus, pop itself to the front, and interrupt me in intervals that are just slow enough to be extremely annoying. Is there a simple fix for this problem that I'm overlooking?

Wait until there's something good on TV, time for dinner, have a bath.... before you start the Export Multiple.
