I don't think you need to edit the .aup file in order to share projects between computers. You just need to make sure that you share not only the .aup file but also the _data folder that goes with it. One thing you don't want to do is have "dependencies" - that will break the .aup file when you transfer it from one machine to the other.

But you might be ready for oddities. Do that 30 second production, seriously. We have one poster that did everything correctly -- had Audacity copy all files (Safer), but when the project got to the other end (cross platform, like you) the sound was perfect, but the blue waves vanished.
I don't know that we ever solved it.

One more item. Audacity doesn't save UNDO with the Project. So if you don't have access to the original music clips and files in both locations, you can easily dig yourself a serious hole.
