switched from winxp to mac--audacity not working the same

I recently switched from windows to mac osx (on a 2-year old intel macbook). having used audacity on winxp I figured the program would work the same. but I'm having trouble. I know I've downloaded the correct files for mac. beyond that I'm stuck. audacity version is 1.2.6.

in winxp, I used to drag and drop tracks into the window. now I have to go through the menu ("file>open"). then, to add a track to the open window, again I used to drag and drop into the window. not only won't that work, but if I do another "file>open" a whole new audacity window opens instead of making a new track in the current window.

that's as far as I've gone. any ideas from the brain trust?

The Brain Trust (short the one who recovering from a particularly difficult Friday Night) thinks you have the wrong Audacity. Intel Macs take 1.2.5, not 1.2.6. So let's start over. Trash the 1.2.6 program and go find the Preference file.

Go > Home > Library > Application Support > audacity > audacity.cfg

...and trash that.

Before you load the new Audacity, please note that 1.2.5 is only going to work if you have Tiger (OS-X 10.4.11) or before. I've been happily using this combination for a long time. If you have Leopard (10.5...), your only option is Audacity 1.3.

1.2.5 has known stability issues with Leopard.

In any case, Audacity launch at First Birthday should ask you "English?" That's the sign that you really are starting over.
