Audacity Forum

I use an Olympus digital recorder for lectures. I would to import them to audacity for editing and understand that it cannot use this format. I have tried converting to AIFF and to MOV with various options yet I'm still unable to import. My preference would be to convert with the smallest file size possible. I would appreciate some guidance.

We were forced into being able to deal with Windows Media and we did it with a powerful license for Flip4Mac. The Free Player won't do you a lot of good, but the next license up has export abilities.

I don't know of any free way to do this, not that there aren't any. We're talking about the two corporations that don't speak to each other on the street.

You're sure your files are Windows Media? They don't play in QuickTime?

Thanks for your response. I'm using the free version of Flip4Mac as well as QuickTime Pro. I can the WMA files in quicktime, and export WAV, AIFF, MOV, MP4, and AU. None these will impost into Audacity.

There is no "impost" Are you opening, importing, or pasting? Open the WAV in QTP and Apple-I Info. Read me what it says.

Missed a signpost. Are your Audacity Preferences set to 24-bit? What are your three preference numbers? 44100, 16-bit, Stereo?

Typos can be embarrassing, importing. My project is set to 44.1, 16 bit, mono.

Thank you for support. I found the problem! I read the help pages and saw MAC's have difficulty with folders that contain spaces and special characters. I renamed the folders and the imports worked. I'll looking in the forum for some other topics that are not inuitive to me, and appreciate your efforts.

Computers can have trouble with spaces and special characters in file or folder names.

If you compute on a little island isolated from all other computers, you can just solve your own problems and go home. However, the first time you need to share files or folders between different computers, this becomes a really big problem in a hurry.

Upper and lower case English letters, numbers, underscore, and dash. That's it. Spaces are accepted by a number of different computers, but managing spaces between computers is very awkward.

I am recording a radio programme right now I will call SouthLandBlues_KPCC_20090425.wav

I am recording it at 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and I will share this file between a Windows and a Mac and it will transfer quickly with no damage or difficulty.
