Audacity crashes when vst enabler is present OS X

I am using an OS X machine, a G5 desktop from a few years ago. When I place the vst enabler in the plug ins folder Audacity will no longer boot up. It crashes on start up. I have tried various builds of Audacity as well as removing all plug ins from the folder and just having the enabler. nothing works. Any ideas?? I miss my favorite reverb :(

This can happen if you have other audio software packages on your machine. This is someone else having the same problems.

i deleted the cfg file as per that response and still nothing. what else can i do? here is my log file from a typical crash that just occurred after i both deleted the cfg file and removed all plug ins from applicable folders:

I don't have any good answers. VST support has always been a little ratty in Audacity. Try the Advanced Search at the top of this forum.

And please don't post hundreds of pages of core dump without asking first. The forum isn't all that big.

Audacity achieves (partial) VST support using the "VST Bridge" plug-in (a separate open source project). The VST bridge is not compatible with all VST plug-ins, and will cause a crash in the presence of some.

My personal opinion, is to not use VST on Audacity, and stick with the hundreds of free LADSPA and Nyquist plug-ins, but if you really must use VST with Audacity, then the solution is to uninstall ALL VST plug-ins from your computer, then add them back one at a time, until you find which are causing the problem.
