After Saving, some audio files do not play

I saved an audacity project with 10 wav files in it, and opened it back up again without moving any files around, and now some files will not play.
Some of the sounds that do not play are duplicates of an original. The original plays but the duplicate does not.
The project is on an external, networked drive. I have the project and its data folder in a project folder and the original sounds that I Imported in a sounds folder. These are all in one folder.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Audacity will capture to a network drive if the network is fast enough and isn't busy doing anything else. Generally we frown on doing that because any Ethernet collision anywhere will kill the show. Video and audio happen in real time, not "hang on a second while I resolve a collision" time.

There is no second.

Probably not. Audacity does not save sound files. To get actual sound files, you must go through the Export dialog and Export To WAV or Export To MP3 or other Export.

If you really meant you started out life with multiple sound files and imported them all into your project, then yes, you still have the original files (in their original locations), but you don't have a single final show file without the Export step.
