exporting *split* (deinterleaved, L&R) wav files

Hi,
I am new to audacity, and I need to "deinterleave" a stereo wav file, and export it so it becomes *2 separate* files, L&R.
To be clear: I am NOT trying to horizontally split a track into smaller time segments.
I have been successful in deinterleaving the file within Audacity itself, by clicking on the the pulldown to the right of the track name, upper left corner of screen (below playback controls), and choosing "split stereo track". After I do that, there are clearly now 2 separate tracks, L&R.
Then, FILE/export as wav, but there's no apparent option to export as a deinterleaved file (2 tracks, L&R). It comes out as a single .wav file.
This is for delivery specs presented by an employer - Please help!!!
Best,
