Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Actually Panther runs QT 7.5.
I'm an experienced OS X user - I check my disks and repair permissions (and clear caches, check for bad prefs, etc. etc.) every time I back up.

The 1.2.6 version @ sourceforge.net says "1.2.6-test" and "Umixit version" in the Get Info box and has a 3/4/07 creation date.

Here's the changelog from 1.2.4->1.2.6
Changes in 1.2.6:

* Fix memory leaks on Windows.

* Correct font size problems.

* Enable missing FLAC support.

Changes in 1.2.5:

* An official Intel Mac version is now available.

* Fixed bug in Generate Silence which caused it to apply to all tracks
instead of just the selected ones.

* Mac OS X: audio device opening code has been rewritten. First, it
is much more conservative about changing device settings; it will
not change settings when you open the program or close the
preferences dialog anymore, and it will not change the settings when
you begin playback/recording if the current settings are adequate.
When it does change the settings, it should work much better on
devices such as the Griffin iMic, ART USB Phono Plus,
and Ion iMX02 USB.

* Mac OS X: added new Audio I/O preference that lets you tell Audacity
to never change any audio device settings.

* Newer libsndfile supports FLAC import and export

* Updated soundtouch to current version which is faster and better quality

* Modified configure script prefers system libraries to local copies to
reduce compilation times and memory usage.

A lot of this is Greek to me; I am interested in the better support for iMic, since I could not get iMic and Audacity 1.2.4 to play nicely together. However - is any of the other stuff earth-shaking? If not, I'll just stick with 1.2.4 for now.

<<<I could not get iMic and Audacity 1.2.4 to play nicely together.>>>

I may be able to solve that one. My iMic worked so well I boxed it and put it in the garage. I understand that's a common destination for that device.

Can you get your Apple preference panel to recognize the iMic?

Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input

Is the iMic listed and can you get the Apple sound meter to work? If not, you have a broken iMic.
