I split up an album using Audacity exporting each song as MPEG-3. But I can't drag album art to it. The songs say Format: MPEG-1 Layer 3 in iTunes.

What do I need to do to next?

There is no MPEG 3. The format everybody calls "MP3" is really MPEG 1, Layer III, a video format. The video was pretty awful, but the associated sound format worked really well, so they kept it.
