I'm using a Mac G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.3 with a Snowball Blue Mic. The mic is connected via USB, and the light is on indicating that it's functioning normally. Every time I hit the record button in Audacity. I get the following error message: "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate." I have no idea what the last sentence refers to, since the input device, the mic, has preestablished settings and is intended to be plug and play. Any insights woud be most appreciated. Thanks.

<<<the light is on indicating that it's functioning normally>>>

Actually, I'd believe the light means there's five volts arriving from the computer and from that you might infer that the microphone is probably working. We probably should read more into a glowing LED than is there.

You didn't start the question with "This always used to work...", so can assume this has never worked since you took the microphone out of the blister pack on Thursday.

I did manage to get my unexciting Logitech USB microphone to work and I write it all down.

The problem with some USB services is that they don't always chat with the computer, so you have the electronic equivalent of two unsighted people trying to find each other in the forest...or in Rome.

If it still refuses to work, you might need to mess around in...

Go > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI setup.
