Hello to all that view this. I have been using Audacity for the last couple of weeks and love the program. I recently purchased an old analog 4 track and began reliving the past by playing some old tapes that I recorded about 20 years ago. I was able to get the separate tracks into audacity, but because I cannot start the 4 track and hit record in Audacity at the exact time all 4 times I cannot get the tracks to perfectly start and end at the same time. On the original recordings, I only had a click track on the Drum track. I have tried to add or subtract data at the beginning of each track to get them to align with little success. Is it possible that the old tapes from the 4 track stretch with each playback going into Audacity not allowing for synchronization or that the 4 track just plays back at slightly different speeds? If anyone could offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: Trouble aligning tracks
I think these tools are better in 1.3, but Project > Align Tracks.
For example, place the cursor someplace in the timeline. Project > Align Tracks > Align With Cursor, and the start of the track will snap to wherever you put the cursor.
Ad Lib.
