Assertion (gfc->mf_size <= MFSIZE) failed in "lame.c" on line 1501

This has come up several times as I tried to export an MP3 file. It freezes up everything and I have to quit Audacity and start over. I'm tired ot doing that. What's the solution to overcome this?

I probably wouldn't have posted a real email address on line....

Let's start with the exact version of Audacity and which Mac and OS. Like this:

Question Format
http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/question.html

Then we can go on to finding out the size of your hard drive and how much room there is left. Do you ever run Verify Disk and Repair Permission? Do you use Skype or other internet telephone services?

The e-mail address filled in automatically and I didn't think to edit. Can I change the login?

But onward to the other.

Do you ever run Verify Disk and Repair Permission? No

Do you use Skype or other internet telephone services? No, although Comcast is trying to sell me on their service. You advise against? I'll do the questionnaire next

I have a question about Audacity 1.2.6 running on my 1.67 GHz Power PC G4 Mac with Mac OS X 10.4.11

Hope that helps.

Yes. Macs have an odd Audacity problem in that the more advanced Intel processors use an earlier Audacity......what. Yeah, it causes no end of grief because the "wrong" Audacity almost works

You didn't do that.

I would try. Go into your "User Control Panel" and see if it will let you edit your username. I'm not very hopeful, but give it a shot.

I haven't been enough of a pest. Which lame do you have? On a very similar machine, I have a file called "LameLib" and my MP3 exports work correctly.

This is what it says on the lame file in my applications: v3.98.2

I downloaded Lame more than once and have LameLib but also LameLib.2 etc. Could that be a problem?

Abundanza!!

Too much of a good thing. Trash them all. Audacity is looking for one single LameLib file and it's nice if it finds one in the Plugins folder, and it's even nicer if all the operating files and folders were in one Audacity folder under Applications.

I have, on one machine, gotten a bad decompression. To this day I don't know why, but I got a lame file that didn't work worth spit. I downloaded a new one (trashed the old one) and decompressed it again. Success.

Koz,
Thanks for all your help. I trashed all the lame files and started over. Still had the same problem. Then I downloaded only one of the four files I had combined. Worked fine. So I found the one .mp3 file that was a problem, tried to convert it again from WNA, still a problem and decided to live without it.

I'm going to drop out of the forum and return with a better handle. Thanks again. Should have checked all the files individually before I bothered you. I'll know better the next time.

Audacity will not correctly open up a Windows Media (WMA) file.

Using Audacity 1.2.6 on a Dual 2 GHz PPC G5 running OS X 10.5.7.

Can't seem to export to MP3. Have downloaded and installed LameLib-Carbon-3.91.sit previous post on this topic aren't clear enough to help me. It appears that they just downloaded again and it worked. Definitely have deleted, downloaded, and re-installed a few times. Could you explain what I'm doing wrong?
