problems with saving

I'm trying to work on a project now. The main problem I'm having is that one of my files (originally a .wav file, which I converted---or at least I think I did---into .mp3 version) doesn't save. The other file, though, which I'm trying to mix both together is still intact though. Hope this makes sense, lol. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

This gets terribly confusing unless we use the correct terminology.
Audacity does not "Save" audio files - it "Saves" projects. A project consists of a small "Audacity Project File", and thousands of data files, some of which are stored in a project Data folder.

To get audio files out of Audacity you must "Export" the audio file. You can Export as WAV, MP3, or various other formats.

To get an audio file into Audacity, you can "Import" the audio file.
