I downloaded a youtube video using firefox (on PowerBook G4 w/Mac OS X 10.5.8) with download helper plugin to the default .flv format. I then played it with QuickTime via perian and exported the audio as a .wav file.
I then went to Audacity, clicked on Project->Import Audio and it said "importing Quicktime audio...". I clicked on play and it sounds just like the original on youtube. Then I save the project, quit audacity, double click on the new audacity project file and Audacity loads with waveform of audio visible on the screen. When I click on Play, there is no sound even though the cursor moves along the waveform.
Is there something obvious I am doing wrong?
Thanks!!
Zac

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: problem importing WAV file
OK, I think I just answered my question!
I went to preferences [apple][,] or COMMAND-comma and clicked on FIle Formats and selected "Make a copy of the file before editing (safer)"
This appears to solve the problem 'cuz now I can reliably import the file and have it play back after quitting and restarting Audacity.
