Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

part of Audacity menu bar not highlighted & accessible
I have installed Audacity 1.2.5 on my iMAC that is running Leopard 10.5.6 using a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I was able to successfully install the program but cannot access either the effect, analyze, or more importantly, HELP from the menu bar in the top left of the screen after program launch. Do I have the correct release of Audacity?
Re: part of Audacity menu bar not highlighted & accessible
To access the effects and analyse menus you must have some audio selected (click and drag your mouse across a track).
The help file is not included in Audacity 1.2, but is available on line here: http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation
There is also a lot of additional information in the Audacity wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... _Home_Page

Yes and no. Yes, you have the correct 1.2.x. A common problem is people try to run 1.2.6 on a machine such as yours/ours and about 80% of it works. Causes no end of grief. It's clear that the programmers should have just let it fail right away.
Anyway, in spite of the "unstable" label, 1.3.x is not a bad way to go and a lot of these oddball operations problems vanish. You will find that you can correctly install both versions on your machine, but you need to only use one at a time.
For example, 1.3 assumes the whole timeline if you select an effect without selecting anything else.
This version cured a lot of "D'Oh! and slapping forehead" problems.
One thing it did not cure was the Saving Audio Files problem. Audacity still won't do it.
