Does Not run from applications,I get a question mark in dock
I Just cannot get audacity to install correctly (mac OSX (intel) Leopard).
I drag it to applications and then put icon in dock, but it will only run from the original disk image on my desktop. As soon as i delete the original disk image a question mark (or a pair of blue headphones and a no entry sign (circle with a diagonal cross) appears on the icon in the dock. When I try to open it a pop-up appears "you cannot open the application, it is not supported on this architecture). THE IRONIC THING IS THAT IT DOES WORK FINE AS LONG AS IT IS LAUNCHED FROM THE DISK IMAGE (As soon as you drad it to applications it loses its ability to launch)

You're installing Mac Audacity 1.2.5, right? That's the Intel version.
"For Mac OS X (Intel): Audacity 1.2.5 (.dmg file, 3.4 MB) - The latest version of the free Audacity audio editor."

Yes I downloaded the correct version 1.2.5 3.4Mb, but it still won't wok.
I even logged into a clean profile that I ONLY use when i'm having trouble with apps. But the problem still shows there
What i notice is that i either get (blue headdphones with no entry sign as described above) or blue headphones with a question mark inside (which it's displaying now) ....strange
It will run but just as long as i never delete the 92KB disk image on the desktop (the 92KB file is produced after you run the 3.4 MB dmg file)
Does it require completely cleaning out of any previous install? if so how do i do that?

This second login is a straight second user, right, not a login to a separate partition?
What sorts of other application problems do you have?
How many hard drives to you have connected including the internal ones and how full are they? An actual number is good, not "Plenty."

One more. Did you create a "root" login and are you an administrator and is the other user an administrator?

yes both accounts are administrator, straight login it's NOT a seperate patition
I have no other app problems
I just have one internal hardrive. 112GB capacity, but pretty full just 2GB spare. no external drives.
thanks wayne
P.S. it can't be a memory problem, can it? if it keeps coming up with "you cannot open the application, it is not supported on this architecture"

<<<112GB capacity, but pretty full just 2GB spare. >>>
That's not "pretty full." That's ready to be pruned now. That particular drive should have 11 GB free at the bare minimum. You would be shocked how quickly 2G vanishes under even a modest project. Let's see, UNDO buffers, Effects modules, Temp Caches, etc. etc. That's not counting the original work. And UNIX never sleeps. OS-X is constantly managing itself in the background. Ever run Mac Janitor?
<<<"you cannot open the application, it is not supported on this architecture">>>
That is precisely the error you get when you cross 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 by accident, or in some other way get the wrong or inappropriate Audacity.
Here, I wrote this for when I just didn't get enough detail...
Question Format

I'm reading this again. You do double click on the .dmg file and it explodes into a mounted install drive, right? Then you open that drive and drag the application and support files over to /Applications? It really worries me that you're opening up the image file and doing anything to the stuff inside.
To "really" uninstall Audacity, you have to pull the application to the trash and then find audacity.cfg and trash that. That's the preference file and that creates a lot of fuss. People think they're trashing Audacity and they download and install a new one only to find that all their settings--and usually problems--are right there waiting for them.
And I would download a fresh install.

Re: Does Not run from applications,I get a question mark in
Thanks Very much Koz
I really appreciate your time
You gave me some ideas and starting points
I HAVE NOW SOLVED THE ISSUE
This is how i solved it
1) I uninstalled audacity by dragging from applications (I searched for audacity.cfg file but i couldn't find it!!)
2) I THEN CREATED a folder called "audacity" in applications
3) I Then downloaded the New audacity beta : Audacity 1.3.6 (.dmg file, 9.9 MB) http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac
AND THEN IT JUST STARTED WORKING PROPERLY
IT WAS VERSION 1.3.6 THAT SORTED THE PROBLEM!!!
SO not sure why te other version was a problem??
But in any case I followed your suggestion about macJanitor...I like the idea of it...Don't know how effective it is
But many thanks for being kind enough to look after ME!!
Thank you KOZ

P.s. I forgot to mention...I spent 20 mins trying to action some suggestions on these pages http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index. ... _under_OSX
BUT IT WAS OF NO HELP, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED
ONLY WHEN I INSTALLED 1.3.6 DID ALL MY PROBLEMS GET SOLVED!

Re: Does Not run from applications,I get a question mark in
We had the same problem. The fix turned out to be that the Mac operating system was set to "case sensitive". Within the
Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS directory is the file "audacity", changing that to "Audacity" caused the Audacity application to function.
