So the wife bought me a Numark TTi and thought it would be a great way to start converting my vinyl to digital. I used the EZ software that came with it but once recorded the sound lvl is low. I turned the gain knob all the way up but still it is very very very low sound. So, i downloaded Audacity but have no idea how to setup the software to work with my Numark. So, i have already downloaded the latest version for my Mac and just need to know HOW to make the two talk to each other. Im able to drag the recordings over from Itunes after converting them from EZ software just need to know how to up the volume on the recording using Audacity .. simple i think ... but have no idea how to do that.

You should be using the Audacity 1.3.12, not 1.2.

Anyway, open the song and Effect > Amplify > OK.

That's the short form. Most of us don't actually do that because you could run into problems if you need filtering or noise reduction later. While Amplify is open, pick a new Peak of -2 > OK.

Audacity will not Save a sound file. To get a sound file you have to Export one. File > Export.

So i think i did this the long way around but tell me how this sounds. So i used EZ converter to convert a track yesterday from vinyl. Once it converted and sent to Itunes i exported it to Audacity and was able to turn the gain up to 20db thus fixing my "sound" problem. Once saved and exported it to my desktop it was in WMV format and wouldnt get pulled into my Itunes (using a MAC). So, my "new" question/problem is can i choose what format to save the track as when im using Audacity? I did download the 1.3.12 yesterday as well ... thanks for the help.

Whats the "simple" way to filter/noise reduction? I did notice a little background noise once ....

Yes you are doing it the long way around. Forget EZ Audio Converter and do your recording directly in Audacity. Set Audacity to 44100 Hz 16 bit in Quality Preferences http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Quality_Preferences.

Set up your USB turntable and Audacity following the outline on this page: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User: ... ut_devices

As you go through the tutorials, note that you can choose the export format in Audacity. I recommend exported as AIF (best quality), then importing those AIFs into iTunes and letting iTunes do the conversion to MP3 or AAC (your choice). iTunes is much faster at this task than Audacity. I have not idea why you chose WMV as your export format - Audacity should not default to that.
