Audacity cant find ffmpeg and lame library files
Hello everyone,
I'm working with itunes m4a files (voice memos), but they won't export. It did work fine after downloading the files on my mac mini, but I'm trying to install them on the laptop. They have the same operating system: Snow Leopard 10.6.4. However, after trying 11 times (yes, 11!) Audacity can't find them despite the messages saying they were successfully installed. I have tried 'locate' and 'browse'. All the info I've found says they are in usrs/local/library/audacity. I haven't got that on EITHER Mac - only me as the user and 'public', which has nothing in it - but it worked ok on the Mini. I've hunted through the entire library and can't find them.
Desperation is setting in - this is for work. So, any advice or suggestions will be very gratefully received.
Cheers
Anette

Hello anette!
What version of audacity are you using? You posted in the 1.2.x section of the forum... On Snow Leopard it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to the latest 1.3.12 version. You can download it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac

Oops. It's 1.3.12. It shows how frazzled my mind is. I can't think straight anymore! I'll try the appropriate section! Many thanks for your quick reply

It's ok. I didn't have any info about audacity version so I was just trying to guess it from the forum section you posted in.
Anyways have you followed the instructions on ffmpeg and lame installation in the below links?

Re: Audacity cant find ffmpeg and lame library files
Hi Bill,
Thanks. I'd read everything I could find, and over the 11 attempts tried everything! But I'll have a look at the info you recommend. Fingers crossed! PS: I'd put the problem on the appropriate forum.

Re: Audacity cant find ffmpeg and lame library files
I wonder if you're just using the wrong plugin files. I did this twice so far and in each case, I downloaded the digital image file, clicked on it and it installed itself. I'm actually not sure where the plugins went.
If you're using Audacity 1.3.12, you should go to that site and only use the lame and FFMpeg you get from there.

And they did install. When I Export a sound file, I get a mile-long list of additional file formats not available without the plugins.
