Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Problem importing Songs

Post by pnelson513 » Wed Dec 15, 2010 9:13 pm

New Audacity user here.

I was using my newly downloaded program for about an hour, editing different songs. All of the sudden, whenever I imported an mp3 or any other type of file to Audacity, it 1) would "import" it instantly, with not loading/progress bar window. Then when I try to play the song back in the Audacity window, it just plays the entire song in a fraction of a second.

OSX 10.5.8 Intel Macbook

thanks.

When you say "any other type of file" does that include AIF and/or WAV?

The symptom you describe is what happens when you try to import an AAC file from your iTunes library. The extension is usually "m4a". Audacity 1.2.x doesn't know how to decode those files.

If you really are using 1.2.x, you should consider upgrading to 1.3.12. It has support for the FFmpeg library which can import and export many more formats.

ah, that was my problem; it was an m4a. The newer version of the program works really well, though.

thanks.

That was fast! Downloaded, installed, tested and a response back to the forum in less than 5 hours. Thanks for letting us know.
