MP3 playing slowly
Hi, I am importing some mp3 files into Audacity 1.2.5 to do some editing, just basic trimming silences from beginning and end, and it is playing them incredibly slowly not at the normal speed.I have done several files, and some seem to be happy and others go into painful slo-mo. They were cassette tapes recorded into digital, and exported as mp3 files, which I believe Audacity is supposed to be compatible with. Any advise welcome - I've probably clicked on something that I shouldn't have!
Re: MP3 playing slowly
On Mac, it's strongly recommended that you upgrade to 1.3.12. Despite being labeled as 'beta' it is far more stable on modern macs (running leopard or snow leopard).
You can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac

Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Close Audacity. Control-Click on one of the songs and Open With > QuickTime Player.
While it's playing, Command-I to get the INFO panel. Does it say MP3?
I'm betting not. Many people thing Digital Music = MP3. When you start to get music that plays in the wrong speed in Audacity, it's a really good bet that the digital format is not MP3 but one of the other digital formats.
You can use the iTunes Import Converter to produce music in many different formats. Open iTunes Preferences > CD Import Format and choose MP3.
Open the song in iTunes, select it, and Advanced > Create MP3 version. Drag the song out of iTunes for editing.
