I loaded 1.2 and that went well, then I tried to play a song (about 10 minutes long) on audacity, but it played the song in about 1.5 seconds, just a high-pitched garble. I have looked in the help stuff and on-line, but I cannot figure out how to slow down the playback. I cannot even find the topic listed anywhere. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support. Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC & MP2 in 1.3.

The screech is Audacity 1.2's inelegant way of telling you that it can't handle the file type you've given it - in 1.3.x a more appropriate and informative error message appears.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.

With the assistance of "FFmpeg", Audacity 1.3.12 supports a lot more audio formats than the old 1.2.6 version.

I think that SUPER is Windows only (and this is the Mac OS X forum).
You may be able to convert the files using iTunes.

Oops, yes I hadn't noticed properly this was the MAC section

In which case I'm guessing the the posters file is in Apple's AAC format - and as Steve says you can ue iTunes to convert that to WAV for Audacity import.
