audacity doesn't pick up sound

audacity doesn't pick up sound
audacity reads my sound card (apogee duet), but nothing comes into audacity, it's just a flat line..please help!

Close Audacity.
Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input.
Select your device in the menu -- or Line-In if it's an analog device. Make sure the volume control is up. Make sound. The Mac blue ball sound meter should jump. If it doesn't, you're doing something wrong outside the Mac.
