How To Record LP's

Post by michham » Sat Nov 13, 2010 8:22 pm

I received Audicity when I bought a new USB turntable and am trying to figure out how to record LP's and then burn the audio to a CD. I am completely unfamiliar with Audacity and can't figure out the very first thing which is to get the LP's recorded. I don't have any problem recording the first side but when I try to record the second side I get a whole new track that is congruent with the first track and when I play it back, both tracks play. I have tried to find information about aligning but when I go to the page in the manual titled "Selecting and Aligning" there is only information about "Selecting" and none about "Aligning". For something as simple as recording two sides of an LP and then burning them to a CD you would think it would be a lot more intuitive than it is. I think the manual was written by very experienced experts that assume the user has some experience and don't bother to start at the beginning. Can anybody point me to some additional documentation or just explain in simple terms how to record and then burn an LP? I will greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,
michham

When you get to the end of side 1, press pause. Flip the record and press pause again to resume recording.

Audacity will not save a sound file nor will it burn a CD, so when you get to the end of side two, Stop and export as WAV.

That sound file should drop right into iTunes. Make an iTunes Playlist and drag your show to it. Follow the directions to burn a Music CD.

Save that WAV sound file. If you want to do editing or production on your record, you'll need it.

Thanks very much for the help. I have successfully recorded and burned to CD about 10 of the 200 or so LP's I want to burn to CD's and they all sound really great.
