no input sound?

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

"Open everything"? What, exactly, do you open?. Did you save after recording and before shutting down? What Mac are you using? Exactly what version of Audacity?geneweygandt wrote:suddenly when i open everything, i've got no input all i did was to shut down after last recording and re-start this morning. ideas? Thanx

Assuming the M-audio box is powered on, you should be able to go to Apple menu > System Preferences, then the Audio panel and select it as the audio input. Then you should be able to start Audacity and go to Audacity > Preferences, the Devices section and select the M-audio as the recording device.

Re: no input sound?
FWIW, here's what I learned. If I opened the M-Audio control panel, and then closed and re-opened Audacity, it was A-ok. Previously, while trouble-shooting, I believe I opened the M-Audio control panel, closed it and THEN closed and re-opened Audacity. That's all we can figure. I'm still confused as to the why, but it all seems fine for now. thanx for your suggestions.
Re: no input sound?
When connecting external devices they need to be connected before opening Audacity.
If you disconnect and reconnect a device while Audacity is running, the device will probably "disappear" from Audacity, you'll have to quit Audacity (Cmd-Q or quit from the menu) and reopen Audacity (with the device connected) for it to be properly detected.

Re: no input sound?
Thanx. I'll try "Quit" rather than "Close" and see if that's it.

Re: no input sound?

Re: no input sound?
Do you have the latest drivers for OS X 10.6.4 from the M-Audio web site?

Re: no input sound?
Just to recap...
- you connect the mixer to the mac (with audacity not running)
- you open audacity
- you go to audacity preferences -> devices and the mixer does not show in the devices list
Is this what happens?
If so then:
- quit Audacity (Cmd-Q)
- open system preferences and go to sound -> inputs
Does your mixer show up in that list?
If not, then it's not an Audacity related problem...
If it shows up in the list then open audacity again and go to Preferences -> Devices again. Does it show your mixer on the devices list now?
