.aiff and .mpeg
When I try to save a recording I've made from a cassette, and choose SAVE AS AIFF or MPEG, I continually get this message saying that "files with a dot before them are reserved for the system and the file will be hidden." I work on an iMac using 10.4.11. It's driving me mad! Can someone please help?

Re: .aiff and .mpeg
First, I highly recommend that you upgrade to 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac
Second, all you have to do is give the file a name - something that is before the ".aiff" or ".mpeg".

Separating Tracks
You've been very helpful. With any luck, this is my last question (at least for a while). I successfully recorded a CD from a cassette. BUT how do I separate the tracks? In essence, to record the cassette, I started the deck, then Audacity, then walked away. When I import it into iTunes, it does so as one (long) song. Without monitoring the computer and manually creating separate tracks, is there a way to do it once the recording is over?
