Can't get stereo input - Ion Tape Express

Hi,
I tried using Audacity for the first time yesterday with my Ion Tape Express. However I couldn't get it to record in stereo. I tried removing the mono track it started and open a new stereo track, but when I switched it on it started recording a new mono track and left the stereo track blank.
I then used the other software that came with it - it's really basic - but that appeared to be recording in stereo.
Have I made some stupid mistake or something?
Hope you can help!
E.

It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 (If I recall correctly Audacity 1.2.x record in mono by default, whereas 1.3.12 records in stereo by default).

Cheers, I've tried downloading the latest version but i'm still having the same problem. Even without anything connected. I open a new stereo track, hit record, and a mono track appears below it. Nothing is happening with the stereo track and the blue line to indicate sound appears on the mono track? Weird?

It sounds like you have your Audacity Preferences set to record in mono - it is the 1.2 default setting, and if you install 1.3 after using 1.2 then it will carry forward your 1.2 Preferences to your 1.3

Just go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and in the panel you will see a section labelled Recording - use the drop-down to set Channels to 2 (Stereo)

I'm having the same problem. It will not allow me to choose stereo recording. Did you figure it out?

Your previous posts said that you were recording from a USB microphone.
If you are using a mono source (such as a mono microphone) you should expect to get a mono recording (as indicated here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 67#p116467 )
