Need a little help

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Need a little help
I have used Audacity, but it has been a long time ... so I need a tad bit of help.
I am on a Mac, so I downloaded Audacity, as I want to mix a song. But, when I open in the song in Audacity and hit the play button, it doesn't play the song ... just sort of zips from beginning to end and I just hear a high pitched noise ... like it is playing the almost 4 minute song in under 1 second.
Is there a setting in the preferences that I need to change? Or, is my download bad?
Note, the song I opened came from my iTunes Library, if that means anything.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

It means a lot. Audacity doesn't directly support Apple iTunes AAC sound format.
Before you do this, remember where the settings were when you change them, and change them back when you're done.
Go into iTunes Preferences > General > CD Import > Settings > WAV encoder.
Select a song and Advanced > Create WAV Version. Then edit the WAV version.
This setting isn't so good for your iPod, so you need to go back and put the original settings back.

Now the down side. Audacity 1.2 is no longer supported on newer Macs. Download and use Audacity 1.3.12...

And if you try this trick with older iTunes purchases, it's not going to work because they're protected with FairPlay copy protection. To get those, you have to put the song in a playlist, burn the playlist to a Music CD and then rip the CD.

Re: Need a little help
One more quick question ... I use the selector tool, and select a part of the song that I want to delete, or copy and paste, yet those options aren't lit up ... they're grayed out.
Am I not using the right tool?
And, is there a good tutorial on the basics, so to speak?
Like I said, it's been a long time since I've used this.
Thanks bunches! Jules

Most options are only available when Audacity is stopped and are greyed out when paused, recording or playing.
Ensure that playback is stopped and not just paused.

Ooooh .... that might have been what I did wrong ... I bet I hit the pause button, and didn't stop it.stevethefiddle wrote:Most options are only available when Audacity is stopped and are greyed out when paused, recording or playing.
