Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Inserting track labels on Mac OSX.4.11

Post by coupemondiale » Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:26 am

I have successfully gone LP to Aud, saved the project, xferred to iTunes and burned a CD . Great!
BUT, I am now want to create labels (tracks) within any of my new projects. So I began a new project:
During recording I paused as instructed between sides
of my LP, then pressed Stop and saved my project, making my entire project a single track. But Then, I tried to go back and insert labels (selected "new label track" from the Project Menu, clicked the beg. of the first track, then "Add Label at Selection" again from the Project Menu. I even figured out how to type in the name of this first track). But, then, my audio track totally disappeared, and, I cannot get it back! So, I'm at a standstill. Even when I try to reopen my file. I can still not restore my
audio track nor can I listen to my project.

HELP!!!!!!!! I have MacOSX.4.11.

Next time you do this:

You have not completed a successful capture (transfer from vinyl, live microphone, internet recoding) until you Export As WAV... to produce a robust safety copy of the performance. Audacity Projects are fluffy clouds of files (not a single file) and are easily damaged as you're finding out. Generally, when you damage a project, it's for good and you have to go back to the safety WAV file.

Or capture it again.

So while you're capturing that vinyl recording again using the above rules, I'll go back over the question and see if I can figure out what happened. You didn't run out of drive space, did you? You understand you can press Apple-B to place a marker and I think you can do it in real time, but don't quote me on that last.

By the way, it's OS-X 10.4.11, what it says when you click on Apple > About This Computer from the desktop.

Did the blue waveforms on the timeline vanish, or they're still there but the show is silent?

Did you go into the files and manage or delete anything between the time you put the markers in and the time you tried to type the information? This general type of thing happens when somebody who doesn't understand projects goes in and "cleans up" all those extra files. There are no extra files. Audacity projects actively use all the files including the capture clips right up until you Export the final show.

<<<xferred to iTunes >>>

How? Exactly how? There is no "transfer" button.

Labelling is not easy to manage in 1.2 - it sis much improved in the Beta 1.3 version of Audacity.
