When I go to the drop down list to select the audio input in Audacity the only item is microphone. Therefore, I can't look at and save the output of a CD player that I've plugged into my Macbook Pro's line input. Does anyone know how to solve my problem? You may post a response, email to gslouis <at> gslouis <dot>com, or phone toll free 888-588-9542 between 9AM and 11:45PM Pacific Time.
Best regards.

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

We try to keep responses on the forum so the maximum number of people can benefit. This is a volunteer forum/dialog, not a help desk.
I would drop Audacity 1.2 like a hot rock. Modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2.

Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Select Line-In and the little blue ball sound meter should bounce when you play music. Then select the same thing -- or Default Input in Audacity Preferences -- not just the drop-down -- and restart. If it just will not work and you selected the right things, make darn sure you plugged into the right connector. It's easy to get the Headphone Out instead of the Line-In.
Go ahead. Ask me how I know that.

Re: Line level audio input
And now the question on everybody's lips, why aren't you using the built-in CD player in your MacBook Pro?
