I have Audacity 1.2.6 and i read that you have to download the LAME library to export files as a .mp3 format. However, I did download the appropriate LAME file but when I go to export a file, i have to locate it and i do, but then a message pops up: Could not open .MP3 encoding library.
I would appreciate any help, thanks!

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Which OS-X? Which machine? And exactly which lame did you download?
All the lame library files come packaged. You did explode (decompress) the file before you tried to use it, right?

Re: .Mp3 export troubles
You got the wrong lame.
The Carbon version is for the Motorola Power PC like the old Mac PowerBook that I'm typing this on. You want the one for the newer Intel processors which is what's inside your MacBook.
Do an Apple > About this Mac. I bet you don't see the words "Power PC."
